ClickUp List and Board Views Explained

Video

ClickUp shows the same tasks as a list or a board. When each view fits, how to switch between them, and the group by, filter and protection settings that work in both.

One set of tasks, two views

People on a team read their work differently. Some want every detail in one place, and some want to see work move from one stage to the next. In ClickUp, List view and Board view show the same tasks, so a change made in one shows up in the other.

List and Board

List view lays tasks out in rows, like a spreadsheet, with the assignee, due date, priority and custom fields side by side. Board view turns each task into a card in a column, usually one column per status, and dragging a card from To Do to In Progress changes its status.

Settings both views share

Group by organizes tasks by status, assignee, priority, tags or due date, and on a board each group becomes a column. Filters narrow the view, for example to tasks due this week, and Save view keeps those filters for everyone who opens the list. Completed tasks are hidden by default, and subtasks can be shown expanded or collapsed. Protecting a view stops other people saving changes to it, while they can still filter it for themselves.
