Building automations in ClickUp
An automation is a rule that moves a task forward on its own, so a status change or a new assignee does not wait on someone remembering to act. Without one, tasks stall after a handoff and new work arrives with nobody assigned.
This walkthrough opens the automations builder on a ClickUp list and creates two rules. The first assigns a user the moment a task moves to In Progress. The second reverses it, moving a task to In Progress as soon as an assignee is added.
It closes on rollout: test a new automation on a few tasks before enabling it team wide, and keep automation to repetitive steps so the rules stay manageable.
Weekend SLA breaches usually trace back to Zendesk business hours configuration. Five common mistakes in schedules and holidays, with the correction for each.
